About

Hi!  I’m Stephen Trier, an engineer and amateur radio operator (my callsign is KK7ZD).  The Skywired blog is about engineering hobbies I enjoy: ham radio, DSP, RF, and other things electronic.  Skywired will be of interest to technically-inclined hams, electronics enthusiasts, and my fellow engineers.

Updates will be posted generally weekly or more often.  If you like what you see, please subscribe with RSS or Atom so you don’t miss a post.

The blog is named after my favorite style of prototyping.  Hams call it “ugly” or “dead bug” construction, but I prefer a name I first heard at work: “sky wiring”.  In this style, components are soldered together over a sheet of copper-clad board. Grounded components have one lead soldered to the copper-clad and the other lead up in the air.  The rest of the components are suspended in the air by their connections to grounded components.  I like building in this “skywired” style, making the term a good name for the blog.

Please enjoy a look around Skywired!
